Social Media Trendspotting
In previous posts we have mentioned the impacts, both negative and positive that social media can have to your business. It is however important to recognise that no matter how small or large your company is, being ignorant about social media can be the biggest risk of all.
Most people that I come across are limited to minor knowledge about Facebook and Twitter and nothing in between. Comnicate believes that it is imperative for a company to have a strong, yet flexible strategy for their social media presence. We have dedicated many of our previous posts to managing and building a strong online brand, but is your social media approach flexible?
It is pretty clear how fickle online trends can be and it is important for companies to keep their finger on the pulse to avoid becoming outdated. Much of what we are seeing at the moment are new tweaks from existing social media powerhousessuch asFacebook Places, FourSquare is also starting to take off in Australia and there is talk of Twitter introducing Facebook-esque pages for companies.
One of the most rapidly growing trends is group buying sites like Scoopon, OurDeal and Spreets which are now booming in Australia.
For those without an iPhone or SmartPhone, you might feel a little left out of the loop by the emergence of mobile social media. While access to your email and Facebook from your phone has been available for a few years now, the trend of mobile media only seems to be growing. I am intrigued by QR Codes, especially as I start seeing them pop up in magazines, newspapers and street posters.
It is important that your company is not only aware of these trends, but also adaptable to them. You should always be thinking about how your business can make the most of online social media.
